Just an Ordinary Day

Here's a glimpse into a day in the life of me on summer vacation. There may not be anything that happened that is necessarily "blog worthy," but if I wait for that, I may not write very much.

My morning started with me returning to my walking routine. I walk with a teacher I work with who lives in the neighborhood. We stopped walking when the weather got too cold and icy -- she was pregnant and we were a bit worried about her falling. She just had her baby two weeks ago and had the OK to start exercising again, so our plan is to go every morning at 7:15.

I came home and started in on my "projects" I have been working on this month. It was my goal to not think about school for one week in June and just focus on overdue projects at home. I was enjoying myself so much that I then decided to not think about school for two weeks . . . and then three weeks . . . but I had a few things come up that couldn't be delayed so I've had to think about school a little bit this week. As for my overdue home organizational projects, so far this month I have: updated my recipe book on the computer (my stack has been growing for a couple of years), updated my Emergency Personal Information book (where all our important information is stored and can be grabbed in an emergency), organized all our family photos and my memorabilia, organized all our CD's and DVD's into binders (and threw away all the cases which were always a mess), cleaned out closets and drawers, threw away all the expired food out of our 72 hour kits (which was everything), and made a happy trip to DI!

This afternoon I spent 2 1/2 discouraging hours at the mall and surrounding stores trying to find a new swimsuit for Amanda. Hers was not a completely desparate situation, but her swimsuit was looking a little old and her accompanying swim skirt had stretched funny and become kind of lopsided. There was not a modest one-piece swimsuit to be found in her size. Finally Old Navy came through for us with a pair of short shorts :) (actually a pair of swim shorts which nicely complement her swimsuit and has made her feel better about her old suit).

I came home and rushed to get Amanda and Jordan to the Youth Conference Kick Off at Surf 'n Swim (which was the reason for the swimsuit dilemma). Jordan was sure none of his friends would be there and gave me a hard time about going, but I was the mean mom and let him know that attendance was not optional. He tried to let me know that he had his rights, and I agreed that he had the right to remain silent and that it was time to get in the car.

Chelsie and I then went to KFC for dinner and we were able to visit with Stephanie during her 10 minute dinner break. We came home and were pleasantly surprised to find John home from work a little earlier than I had expected. He was excited about having a good day at work, and that is always welcome news as he moves full swing into his new job.

Now that the day is winding down, I think I'm going to climb into bed and read Beauty by Robin McKinley. It was a favorite book of mine years ago, and then we somehow lost it. John saw it in the book section at DI and bought it for me, and I am reading it again and remembering again just how much I love the book.

P.S. Jordan's friends actually did go to the Youth Conference Kick Off. He has just come and told me he loves me.

Welcome to the blogoshpere!

Those are very ambitious projects--I'm impressed!

Just one question ... How did you get all of those projects done in three weeks? Where do you get all of your energy and can I buy some? :-)

I remember reading that book at your house and really liking it! Maybe I'll have to read it again next time I visit:)
